ADVISORY ON AN ALLEGED AMNESTY PROGRAM BEING OFFERED FOR A FEE BY THE KOREAN GOVERNMENT TO OVERSTAYING ALIENS

The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Seoul wishes to advise Filipinos in South Korea to exercise utmost diligence in availing of an alleged amnesty program being offered for a fee by the Korean government to overstaying aliens in the country.

Per information received by the Philippine Embassy, certain entities, posing as non-government organizations authorized by the Korean government, are offering overstaying aliens an opportunity to legalize their stay in the country. For a fee of KRW 4.5 Million, overstaying aliens will be issued a “revival” visa. The alleged amnesty program began in April 2015 and will end on 25 July 2015. The Philippine Embassy wishes to underscore that it has not received any information from the Korea Immigration Service (KIS), or any Korean government agency, about the said amnesty program. Moreover, there is currently no official announcement from the KIS on their website on the said program. The Philippine Embassy has already contacted the Korea Immigration Service to seek clarification on the matter. In the meantime, Filipinos are advised to be extra vigilant in guarding themselves against possible scams.
