DEPUTY SPEAKER FERJENEL BIRON CALLS ON PH AMBASSADOR TO KOREA, REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR PH-ROK INITIATIVES


Philippine Ambassador to the ROK Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez welcomed Deputy Speaker of the 20th Congress Ferjenel Biron at the Philippine Embassy in Seoul on 16 October 2025

16 October 2025 - Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, received Deputy Speaker Ferjenel G. Biron during a courtesy call at the Philippine Embassy in Seoul on 16 October 2025, where he reaffirmed his strong support for Philippines–Republic of Korea relations.

Ambassador-designate Fernandez recognized the Deputy Speaker’s key role in advancing the PH-ROK FTA, particularly the inclusion of provisions on pharmaceuticals aimed at improving access to affordable, high-quality medicine. As a legislator and healthcare professional, Deputy Speaker Biron emphasized the importance of trade policy in strengthening public health and enabling broader cooperation between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea. 

In addition to health, Deputy Speaker Biron underscored the value of education and regional development in Iloilo, highlighting several initiatives to expand academic programs in the allied health and maritime fields, as well as to strengthen sports development for the youth. Ambassador-designate Fernandez welcomed his initiatives to align education with regional economic needs. Both sides looked forward to deeper sub-national collaboration between Iloilo and ROK institutions in both academic and development sectors. END

CPR TRAINING PROGRAM FOR OFWS & OVERSEAS FILIPINOS IN SOUTH KOREA

8 February 2026, Seoul - The Philippine Embassy in Seoul, through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) South Korea, successfully conducted a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and Overseas Filipinos (OFs) on February 8, 2026, at the 2nd Floor, Sentro Rizal Hall, Philippine Embassy.  A total of sixty-four (64) participants actively took part in the life-saving skills training.

PHILIPPINES, PARAGUAY AFFIRM COMMITMENT TO DEEPEN BILATERAL AND MULTILATERAL COOPERATION

Seoul, Republic of Korea – Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez called on Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay to the Philippines H.E. Miguel Angel Ubaldino Romero Alvarez on 28 January 2026 at the Paraguay Embassy in Seoul to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in regional and multilateral fora. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on enhancing political dialogue, economic engagement, and people-to-people ties. The discussion highlighted Paraguay’s role as current President of MERCOSUR and growing opportunities for collaboration with ASEAN, including prospects for trade cooperation, sustainability initiatives, and carbon market mechanisms. A shared commitment to a rules-based international order, peaceful settlement of disputes, and respect for international law was likewise underscored.
