Philippine Ambassador to Korea Raul S. The 10-member Philippine delegation, which was led by Ms Marielou A. Chua of National Youth Commission (NYC), was made up of eight undergraduate students from different campuses in the University of the Philippines system and one graduate student from the University of Batangas. The KYWA, a key institute for youth activity and entrusted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF), runs the program to enhance the Filipino participants’ interest and understanding about Korean culture through homestay program and site visits in Seoul, Jeonju and Suwon.

SEOUL, 27 July 2016 ? A delegation consisting of nine outstanding Filipino youths selected by the National Youth Commission (NYC) for participation in the 2016 Philippines-Korea Youth Exchange Program on 20-29 July 2016, called on Philippine Ambassador to Korea Raul S. Hernandez at the Embassy Chancery on Thursday, 21 July 2016.

The 10-day program organized by the Korea Youth Work Agency (KYWA), an institute affiliated with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF), aims to enhance interest and understanding about Korean culture through a homestay program and cultural site visits around Seoul, and to Suwon and Yeoncheon in Gyeonggi Province, Seocheon in South Chungcheong Province, and Jeonju. Starting 2013, KYWA has promoted various projects through the Korea Youth Exchange Centre (KYEC) in order to equip young men and women with professional attributes and leadership skills to ensure the necessary self-confidence and sense of accountability required of young global citizens in the future. The Philippine delegation, which was led by Ms Marielou A. Chua of NYC and accompanied on the courtesy call to the Embassy by two KYEC officers Ms Joo Mira and Mr Kang Wan-sub, was made up of eight undergraduate students from different campuses in the University of the Philippines’ system and one graduate student from the University of Batangas. The Filipino delegates are among 300 youths from 19 countries, including Brunei and three other ASEAN countries, as well as Bulgaria, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Turkey and the UAE, visiting Korea from April to November to enhance mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation through activities such as classes, excursions, and company study visits. Korea’s International Youth Exchange Program was initiated in 1979 through the Korea-Malaysia Youth Interchange Agreement executed in 1965. The Philippines and Korea signed the MOU on Cooperation in the Field of Youth in 1996. As of April 2016, 34 countries have signed agreements with Korea, with 10,498 participants having joined the program by 2015. ? END?

Cebu-Filmed Drama “Boyfriend on Demand” Released(Ranks No.1 on Netflix Korea Top 10 Series Immediately After Release)

The Netflix series “Boyfriend on Demand”, starring Jisoo and Seo In-guk and filmed in Cebu with production support from the Philippine Department of Tourism, was released globally on Netflix on March 6. Part of the series was filmed on location in Cebu, featuring a variety of scenic landscapes throughout the drama, including the island’s beautiful beaches, luxury resorts, and coastal roads. Several scenes highlight the destination’s resort atmosphere, such as moments where the main characters enjoy surfing along the beach or share a romantic dinner overlooking the ocean, vividly capturing Cebu’s charm as a tropical getaway. Following its release, “Boyfriend on Demand” quickly ranked No.1 on the Netflix Korea Top 10 TV Series, while also entering the Netflix Top 10 charts in around 50 countries, according to the global OTT ranking site FlixPatrol. The romantic comedy series, which also features Seo Kang-jun and Lee Soo-hyuk, follows the story of Seo Mi-rae (Jisoo), a webtoon producer who is too exhausted from everyday life to pursue romance. Through a “dating subscription service,” she embarks on new encounters and exciting dates, leading to unexpected relationships and emotional moments. Dr. Erwin F. Balane, Tourism Attaché of DOT Korea, said, “We supported this production as part of a content collaboration initiative aimed at introducing one of the Philippines’ leading resort destinations through the global influence of Korean dramas. With the drama featuring stunning beaches, resorts, and coastal scenery throughout the story, viewers will naturally experience the relaxed and vibrant atmosphere unique to the Philippines”. He further noted that the series, starring Korean Hallyu stars Jisoo and Seo In-guk, is expected to serve as an effective platform to further promote the Philippines to audiences in Korea and around the world.
