Legal Forum on Marriage Migrants' Issues


01 March 2026, Seoul, Republic of Korea- In observance of National Women’s Month and in support of Filipino marriage migrants in the Republic of Korea, Embassy officials, led by Consul General Edwin Gil Q. Mendoza, took part in a legal forum addressing key concerns on marriages, divorces, and visa-related issues affecting Filipino marriage migrants in D-Square, Dangsan, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul.

The event was organized by Orbit, a group established by Atty. Taewoo Kim of Bae, Kim and Lee LLC and ARCES Law Offices, and Connor Bok, Samsung Biologics. The gathering created a safe and welcoming space for dialogue, allowing participants to openly share their experiences and raise questions about the legal complexities surrounding marital issues in South Korea.

Participants discussed matters related to divorce procedures, child custody, and other family concerns, as well as visa issues that may occur following a divorce.

The forum was attended by Filipino marriage migrants, highlighting the importance of community support, legal awareness, and empowerment for Filipinos living abroad. END

26 March 2026, Seoul - Ambassador Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez participated in the tour of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Korea on 23 March 2026. The invitation also included a courtesy call and luncheon with Justice Kim Hyungdu, the highest official following the Constitutional Court President. The Ambassadors of Canada, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Thailand, Uzbekistan, were also invited to take part in the activity.
