PH ADVANCES PRIORITIES FOR ASEAN 2026 AT MOFA AND ASEAN MEMBER STATES MEETING IN SEOUL

29 December 2025, Seoul - Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, attended the meeting between ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Cecilia Eui-hae Chung and Ambassadors of ASEAN Member States (AMS), held on 3 December 2025 at the Lotte Hotel, Seoul.

Deputy Minister Chung expressed appreciation for APEC economies’ support for the Republic of Korea’s hosting of APEC 2025 and thanked ASEAN for its continued support for peace on the Korean Peninsula. She also congratulated Malaysia on the conclusion of its ASEAN Chairship and welcomed the Philippines as ASEAN Chair for 2026.

Ambassador Fernandez conveyed appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s and ASEAN’s support for the Philippines’ forthcoming ASEAN Chairship. She highlighted the Philippines’ priorities—peace and security anchors, prosperity corridors, and people empowerment—and underscored the Republic of Korea as a key partner, particularly in advancing digital connectivity, trade facilitation, and addressing trade challenges. END

Driven by urbanization and rising natural calamities in the Philippines, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of shifting the focus from reactive crisis management to proactive readiness, allowing communities to recover much faster through shared governance.
