PH EMBASSY COMMEMORATES RIZAL’S 164th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

19 June 2025, Seoul – In celebration of the 164h Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the Philippine Embassy in collaboration with the Knights of Rizal (KOR) – Korea Chapter held a solemn wreath-laying at the Sentro Rizal Hall of the Philippine Embassy. 

The ceremony was led by Ambassador Maria Theresa B. Dizon – De Vega, Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General Sir Edwin Gil Q. Mendoza, Sir Anthony Z. Cornista, Commander KOR – Korea Chapter, KOR – Korea Chapter officers, officers and staff of the Embassy and Filipino community members. 

In a message from the Knights of Rizal International Headquarters Supreme Council, we are reminded of Rizal’s patriotism to the motherland, and his writings, especially the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, that awakened the Filipino soul and ignited the flames of revolution – not through violence, but through truth. END

Fernandez highlighted the importance of uniting public and private sectors for disaster response, climate resilience, and sustainable development during the Fellowship of the 2026 KOICA Global Training Program: Capacity Building for Public-Private Governance on Community Volunteer Work in the Philippines (2024–2026) in Gwangju on 18 August 2026. Driven by urbanization and rising natural calamities in the Philippines, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of shifting the focus from reactive crisis management to proactive readiness, allowing communities to recover much faster through shared governance.
