17 December 2025, Seoul, Republic of Korea - The Philippine Embassy in the Republic of Korea reaffirmed its support for Filipino scholars and international academic cooperation through its participation in the 2025 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Year-End Party, organized by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED).

Her Excellency Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Philippines to the Republic of Korea, extended her congratulations to HAN Sang-Shin, President of NIIED; Shin Mi-kyung, Education Internalization Officer at the Ministry of Education; and the GKS community, along with officials from 19 diplomatic missions, for another successful year in advancing international education and strengthening people-to-people ties.

In her message, Ambassador Fernandez highlighted the opportunities afforded to Filipino scholars under the GKS program, noting that many students from the Philippines have been able to pursue higher education in Korea, develop advanced skills, and gain expertise aligned with their fields of interest.

She shared that while some Filipino scholars may return to the Philippines to contribute their knowledge and expertise to national development, others may choose to remain in Korea to pursue further studies, work, or teaching opportunities, while still others may find their professional paths in different countries where their skills can be put to meaningful use.

Ambassador Fernandez emphasized that scholars under the GKS program receive excellent education from some of Korea’s best universities, reflecting the Republic of Korea’s strong commitment to nurturing world-class experts, including Filipino academics.

She further expressed the Embassy’s appreciation to NIIED and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea for making such scholarship opportunities possible, recognizing their role in promoting innovation, technology, development, and progress through education.

The year-end celebration also featured cultural activities, scholar performances, and an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding academic achievement, volunteer service, and individual merit among GKS scholars.

The Philippine Embassy extended its best wishes to the GKS community for the holiday season and reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting Filipino students in Korea and strengthening educational and cultural cooperation between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea. END
