PH Embassy in Seoul Participates in the 14th Global Korea Awards

27 November 2025- Seoul, Republic of Korea — Her Excellency Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Philippines to the Republic of Korea participated in the 14th Global Korea Awards, organized by The Korea Times, on 27 November 2025 at the Korea Press Foundation in Seoul.

Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Ministry of Education, the Global Korea Awards recognize outstanding youth and university students from multicultural and migrant-background families who have made significant contributions toward fostering inclusivity, diversity, and social cohesion in Korean society. 

During this year’s ceremony, a Special Award was conferred on Park Ha-neul, a second-year student at Pyoseon High School in Seowigpo, Jeju. Born to a Korean father and a Filipino mother, the award highlighted the valuable contributions of multicultural families and individuals in the Republic of Korea. In recognition of this meaningful occasion, Ambassador Fernandez took part in the presentation of the awards.

Other award recipients included Song Jae-yeon, a second-year student at Gyeongan Girls’ Middle School in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, who received the National Council of Governors of Education Award, and Yoon Young-mee, a fourth-year nursing major at Munkyung College in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province, who was bestowed the Special Jury Award. Both awardees are of Korean and Filipino parentage.

The Embassy’s participation reflects the Philippines’ continued commitment to promoting cross-cultural understanding, strengthening people-to-people ties, and supporting initiatives that recognize the achievements of multicultural youth and families.

PH AMBASSADOR MEETS GREEN CLIMATE FUND OFFICIALS IN SONGDO

19 March 2026, Songdo - Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez met with senior officials of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) led by Mr. Hemant Mandal, Director of the Asia and the Pacific Region, at their headquarters in Songdo, Incheon for cordial exchange on the Philippines’ cooperation with the Fund and shared efforts to advance climate resilience and sustainable development. The meeting underscored the importance of continued collaboration in supporting climate action and strengthening access to climate finance for vulnerable and developing countries, including the Philippines. The meeting with GCF officials also highlighted the productive partnership between the Philippines and the Fund. Prior to the meeting, Ambassador Fernandez also met with Filipino professionals working in the GCF. The Philippine Embassy in Korea is proud to note that Filipinos serving in the GCF continue to make valuable contributions across the institution. Widely recognized for their professionalism, technical expertise, dedication, and collegiality, Filipino professionals have helped support the Fund’s work in meaningful ways and remain a source of pride for the Filipino community in the Republic of Korea. Their strong presence in the GCF reflects the high regard for Filipino talent in international organizations and the important role they play in advancing global climate and development initiatives.
