PH PARTNERS WITH ROK IN WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT IN BULACAN

SEOUL, 26 APRIL 2017 ?Joint cooperation between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea in water resources development in Bulacan province through the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project (BBWSP) was recently mentioned in the Korean language MK newspaper dated 19 April 2017.

This partnership between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea through the BBWSP was recently forged through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) with the winning consortium of San Miguel Corporation-Korea Water Resources Corporation (KWater) on 15 January 2016.
The BBWSP, which is the first water project under the Philippine government's Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program, will benefit an estimated 3.4 million residents of Bulacan as they will no longer rely solely on ground water for their water supply. Water will be sourced from Angat Dam to meet the increasing consumer demand for potable water in Bulacan province. The BBWSP involves the development of water resources, conveyance facilities and water treatment facilities for potable bulk water supply to be supplied to 13 water districts in Bulacan province covering 569 barangays.
According to the PPP Center, the total project indicative cost of the BBWSP is PhP 24.41 billion. As of 7 April 2017, the ongoing construction of the Water Treatment Plant is 10.01% complete.
The participation of KWater in the BBWSP signifies the keen interest of ROK to participate in infrastructure development projects in the Philippines. ROK is currently partnering with the Philippine government in major infrastructure development projects such as the construction of the 4.19 km Panguil Bay Bridge connecting Tangub, Misamis Occidental and Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, the Puerto Princesa Airport Development Project and the construction of the circumferential Samar Pacific Coastal Road.
