PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR ADVANCES PEOPLE-CENTERED ASEAN-ROK PARTNERSHIP AT 21st JEJU FORUM

Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez advanced a people-centered ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the 21st Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity held in Jeju from 24 to 26 June 2026.

Seoul, 26 June 2026 — Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez participated in the 21st Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity held in Jeju from 24 to 26 June 2026. Under the theme “Reimagining Cooperation in an Era of Division,” the Forum brought together leaders, senior officials, diplomats, international organizations, and policy experts to discuss the future of multilateral cooperation amid geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, and rapid technological change.

Ambassador Fernandez joined the panel discussion on the implementation of the ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) Vision, where she emphasized that the CSP should not be treated as a new slogan, but as a discipline of implementation. She cited the early progress under the new ASEAN-ROK Plan of Action for 2026 to 2030 as proof that the partnership is functional, practical, and already moving. The Ambassador identified maritime cooperation, cybersecurity, economic upgrading, biodiversity protection, and socio-cultural exchanges as key priorities to sustain and affirm the CSP vision. Ambassador Fernandez also highlighted the Philippine ASEAN Chairship in 2026 under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” and encouraged the ROK to remain present, practical, and invested in ASEAN-led mechanisms.

The Ambassador’s call for a people-first and people-centered implementation of the ASEAN-ROK CSP was well received by panelists and participants. She underscored that strategic partnerships must be felt in safer seas, stronger institutions, more resilient economies, better protected environments, and deeper trust among peoples. Ambassador Fernandez also participated in the inauguration of the Timor-Leste bench at the ASEAN-Korea Jeju Olle Trail. The Ambassador was joined by Consul General Leah Victoria T. Carada of the Philippine Consulate General in Busan and Second Secretary and Consul Reisha Olavario during these activities.  END
