PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN SEOUL COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW (IHL) MONTH

Philippine Embassy in Seoul Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Edwin Gil Mendoza led the commemoration of the International Humanitarian Law Month during the Embassy’s flag raising ceremony on 04 August 2025.
05 August 2025, Seoul. In observance of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, led by Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Edwin Gil Mendoza, reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the core principles of international humanitarian law in the performance of its duties. Embassy personnel collectively pledged to continue recognizing, respecting, and defending human rights—especially the rights of those not taking part in armed conflict.
The Embassy will also join the global community in marking IHL Day on 12 August 2025, in accordance with Executive Order No. 134, s. 1999, which declared August as IHL Month in the Philippines.
This initiative forms part of the Philippines’ broader efforts to foster awareness of humanitarian principles, promote the protection of human dignity during armed conflict, and highlight the continued relevance of the Geneva Conventions. The Philippines has ratified the Four Geneva Conventions and acceded to these international law treaties in 1952.
International humanitarian law governs the conduct of armed conflict, seeking to limit its effects and to safeguard civilians and other non-combatants. By observing IHL Month, the Philippine government reinforces its dedication to international norms that aim to prevent atrocities and ensure accountability for violations of the laws of war. END
