SEOUL, 22 June 2026 — The Philippine Embassy in Seoul observed Blue Monday in commemoration of World Refugee Day and National Refugee Day 2026, joining the call to express solidarity with refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons.
This year’s observance marked two significant milestones: the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, and the 45th anniversary of the Philippines’ accession to the Convention. The commemoration reaffirmed the Philippines’ long-standing commitment to refugee protection, international humanitarian principles, and durable solutions for persons in need of protection.
Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez shared the message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for National Refugee Day and encouraged Embassy personnel to deepen their understanding of the Philippines’ contribution to refugee protection, international refugee law, and the country’s open-door humanitarian tradition.
