15 March 2026, Seoul. In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) – South Korea, successfully conducted a Soap and Candle Making Training on 15 March 2026 at the MWO-OWWA Building.
A total of forty-two (42) Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) participated in the activity, which forms part of the agencies’ continuing efforts to provide skills development programs that support the welfare and reintegration of OFWs upon completion of their overseas employment contracts.
The training aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in soap and candle making—skills that may be utilized for personal use or developed into sustainable livelihood opportunities in the future. The initiative also underscores the importance of empowering women and promoting their economic independence, in line with the celebration of National Women’s Month.
In her welcome remarks, Welfare Officer Cornelia DG. Chanco expressed her appreciation for the active participation of the Filipino community and reaffirmed the commitment of MWO and OWWA to continuously deliver relevant programs that enhance the well-being of OFWs in South Korea.
Meanwhile, Labor Attaché Atty. Rosemarie G. Duquez delivered an inspiring message, emphasizing the value of skills development and creativity as tools for empowerment:
“This activity reflects our commitment to promoting skills development, creativity, and livelihood opportunities for our community. We hope that beyond learning the basics of soap making, you will be inspired to explore skills that can be useful for personal use or future entrepreneurial ventures.
Just like in soap making, with the right ingredients, patience, and care, we can create something valuable. In the same way, each of you has the potential to transform simple ideas into meaningful opportunities for yourselves and your families.
We encourage everyone to stay connected with the programs of the Philippine Embassy, MWO, and OWWA as we continue to support and empower our Filipino community in Korea.”
The conduct of the training is likewise aligned with the 10-Point Alagang OWWA Agenda of OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne M. Caunan, particularly in advancing capacity-building and livelihood opportunities for OFWs.
As the Philippine government continues to recognize the invaluable contributions of women, especially Filipina migrant workers, initiatives such as this reaffirm its commitment to fostering empowerment, resilience, and inclusive growth among the Filipino community overseas.
