Philippine Embassy in South Korea Organizes Lecture on Korean Culture

19 May 2008 – Philippine Embassy to Seoul Luis T. Cruz reported to the Department that, in line with the Embassy’s continuing effort to promote cultural awareness among Filipinos in South Korea, the Embassy sponsored a Seminar on Culture at the Conference Room of the Chancery on 18 May 2008.

Attended by more than 30 representatives from the Embassy and the Filipino Community, the seminar focused on the history and culture of South Korea, including pointers on effectively navigating Korean society. Employer-employee relations, business practices, and the status of women in the country were among the hot topics during the three-hour discussion. “The seminar is intended to introduce Korean culture to our Filipino countrymen to help in their adjustment to South Korea,” explained Amb. Cruz. “This program is beneficial not only for those who have just arrived but also even those who have been living here for a number of years. South Korea is such a dynamic and multi-faceted country such that an organized study of Korean culture, clearly and capably explained by an expert, will definitely help Filipinos better interact with their Korean counterparts,” he added. The seminar was conducted by Prof. Christian Joon Park, a doctor in Anthropology and lecturer at the Hanguk University of Foreign Studies. It was conducted in cooperation with the Philippine-Korea Cultural House.
