October 02, 2025, Mokpo, Rep. of Korea — The Philippine Embassy in Seoul joins the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Pavilion at the 2025 Namdo International Culinary Expo, held in Mokpo, Rep.of Korea.
Under the theme “The Taste of Herbs & Spices: Ten Nations, One Flavorful Journey,” the Pavilion highlights the diverse culinary heritage of the ten ASEAN member states, celebrating food as a powerful medium for cultural diplomacy and regional cooperation.
Representing the Philippines, H.E. Bernadette Therese C. The Philippine booth featured the iconic Filipino dish “adobo”, prepared by Filipino chefs in collaboration with the Department of Tourism-Korea, alongside popular Filipino food products, as well as cultural and tourism materials offering visitors a deeper appreciation of Philippine culture.
The ceremony included a guided tour of the ASEAN Pavilion, presentation and tasting of featured national dishes, the handing of ceremonial medals to participating chefs, and special messages from notable dignitaries. These included opening remarks by Kim Jae-shin, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC), who emphasized the Pavilion’s role in fostering cultural understanding between ASEAN nationals and Korean communities.
Featured dishes across the Pavilion included Khua Mee (Laos), Nasi Lemak (Malaysia), Mohinga (Myanmar), Kaya Toast (Singapore), and Nem Cuon (Vietnam), among others — each reflecting the rich flavors and heritage of their respective countries.
