BUSAN, 24 April 2016 - In a effort to enable Filipinos living in the southern part of Korea to participate in this year's overseas balloting, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul sent a two-person team to conduct field voting in Busan on 23-24 April 2016 at the offices of Honorary Consul General An Sang-wook located at the city's north central Geumjeong District.

A total of 162 voters from Busan and nearby cities like Geoje, Gimhae, Ulsan personally appeared at the venue to cast their accomplished ballots, added to nine others who received their ballots via Korea Post, to a member of the Embassy's Special Ballot Reception and Custody Group (SBRCG). Two overseas voters with active registration in another foreign country but who were unable to register in Korea filed their Manifestation of Intention to Vote, based on a COMELEC Order approved the previous week, allowing a voter to vote in their current country of residence or work. "The initiative by the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, under the leadership of Ambassador Raul S. Hernandez, to conduct the two-day voting in Busan is another way to encourage Filipinos to exercise their right to suffrage", said Consul General An, who welcomed the members of the Special Board of Election Inspector and SBRCG from the Philippine Embassy in Seoul. The Philippine Consulate General in Busan, located on 1927 Jungang Ave. in Guseo-dong, was inaugurated in late January and launched its services on 1 March this year to better serve Filipinos living in Busan, Ulsan, Daegu, Gwangju, Changwon, Gimhae, Muan and Jejudo Island. The next round of field voting will be conducted at the Catholic Workers Center in Daegu on 29-30 April 2016.
