SECRETARY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS MA. THERESA P. LAZARO ARRIVES IN KOREA FOR THE APEC MINISTERIAL MEETING


Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro arrives in Busan, Republic of Korea, on 29 October 2025, for the 36th APEC Ministerial Meeting in Gyeongju. She was welcomed by Ambassador-designate Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, Director General Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III, and officials of the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, as well as Ambassador Kang Seokhee, Ambassador for International Relations of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

BUSAN, 29 October 2025 — Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro arrived in Busan on 29 October 2025 to participate in the 36th APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) to be held in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, from 29 to 30 October 2025.

Secretary Lazaro was welcomed by Ambassador-designate Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez, Director General Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III, and officials of the Philippine Embassy in Korea, as well as by Ambassador Kang Seokhee, Deputy Governor for International Relations, Province of Gyeongsangbuk-do.

The Secretary’s participation in the APEC Ministerial Meeting forms part of the Philippine delegation’s engagement in the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW), in support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who will join fellow APEC Economic Leaders in advancing the region’s shared goals of sustainable, innovative, and inclusive growth.

During the AMM, Secretary Lazaro will join her counterparts in discussing ways to harness opportunities and accelerate economic growth while addressing regional challenges to build a sustainable and prosperous Asia-Pacific region by leveraging digital cooperation, among others.

PH EMBASSY DONATES PHILIPPINE PUBLICATIONS TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY LIBRARY OF KOREA

26 February 2026 - The Philippine Embassy in Seoul turned over a collection of Philippine publications to the National Assembly Library of the Republic of Korea on 26 February 2026  to strengthen knowledge exchange and parliamentary diplomacy. Ambassador Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez presented the books to Chief Librarian (Vice Minister) Hwan Jeong Geun during a meeting at the National Assembly. The donated titles, which include publications from the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Foreign Service Institute, cover Philippine history, arts, culture, and foreign relations. The National Assembly Library expressed appreciation for the contribution and indicated plans to organize a future exhibition featuring the donated books and Philippine cultural heritage. Ambassador Fernandez underscored the importance of expanding Philippine resources within the National Assembly Library to support informed understanding of the Philippines among Korean legislators and policy researchers. “Informed understanding is the foundation of effective parliamentary dialogue,” the Ambassador said. “By strengthening Philippine resources within the National Assembly Library, we hope to contribute to deeper appreciation of the Philippines’ governance, economic reforms, and vibrant cultural heritage.” Ambassador Fernandez also highlighted that the donation of art books is timely, as the Philippines celebrates national arts month in February. Established in 1952, the National Assembly Library is one of Korea’s premier legislative research institutions, holding more than 8.5 million volumes and over 420 million pages of digital resources that support policy research and parliamentary work.
