UBE MANIA SWEEPS KOREA AS PH EMBASSY MARKS 2026 FILIPINO FOOD MONTH
On 26 April 2026, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul held a special pop-up tasting event featuring ube champorado and ube milktea.
SEOUL, 26 April 2026 — The Philippine Embassy in Seoul held “Taste the Trend: Ube from the Philippines” at the Philippine Experience Space on 26 April 2026 in celebration of Filipino Food Month, featuring ube milk tea and ube champorado (creamy ube yam porridge, similar to the Korean juk) enjoyed by Filipinos, Koreans, and members of the broader international community.
Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez welcomed guests who had lined up well before opening time, with 200 prepared servings fully taken up shortly after the activity opened, reflecting growing curiosity for ube as a distinctly Filipino flavor gaining attention in Korea’s café and dessert scene.
Guests were also introduced to various iterations of ube and Philippine snacks, including ube rice cakes, cookies, candies, chocolates, and other Filipino snack variants. Many visitors expressed delight at the range of products and flavors presented, while some inquired about possible business applications of ube in Korea. To support this interest, the Embassy prepared a QR-accessible information page on ube, providing interested consumers and businesses with basic information on the ingredient, its Philippine origin, and available product forms. The Embassy would like to thank everyone who supported the activity, including guests who shared and posted about the pop-up online, helping bring greater visibility to Philippine food and flavors in the Republic of Korea.
