Consular Advisory no. SMM-2010-01 Certification of Philippine Driver's License


CONSULAR ADVISORY NO. SMM- 2010-01 SUBJECT : CERTIFICATION OF PHILIPPINE DRIVERS LICENSE Effective Monday, 22 March 2010, the Philippine Embassy will resume the issuance of a Certification of Philippine issued driver�셲 license upon submission of the following required documents:

1. Certification from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) , Department of Transportation and Communications, confirming the validity of the said license
2. DFA Authentication of the LTO Certificate
3. Presentation of the original Philippine driver�셲 license and submit a photocopy
4. Presentation of a valid Philippine Passport and submit a photocopy

Other requirements include personal appearance of the applicant and payment of certification fee. Verification process will take five (5) working days from application date.
Filipinos in Korea are warned to avoid dealing with unscrupulous individuals and illegal operators. A report from the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that an increasing number of fake DFA Authentication certificates are being presented to the Embassy for final certification. Use of fake documents is a criminal offense both in the Philippines and in Korea. The Korea National Police Agency (KNPA) has enforced strict measures against those who use fake documents or conspire with others to obtain fake documents in the Philippines. Recently, the KNPA apprehended foreigners who were found with fake documents and are now being investigated by the Prosecutor�셲 Office. Those caught are either imprisoned or deported immediately.
