SEOUL PE GIVES BRIEFING ON ITS CONSULAR SERVICES AT THE UFILKOR EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP

Seoul, 11 October 2026 - The Philippine Embassy in Seoul participated in the United Filipinos in Korea (UFILKOR)’s educational workshop for members and friends of the organization coming from different provinces in the ROK at the Seminar Hall of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The workshop covered cybercrime awareness and prevention, consular services, emergency preparedness, gender and development (GAD), and long-term financial security through the Home Development Mutual Fund, or Pag-IBIG Fund.

In his inspirational message, Mr. Hong In-myung, Chairman of the Multicultural General Welfare Center (MGWC) in Seoul, acknowledged the challenges faced by Filipino migrants in Korea, particularly those arising from language and cultural differences, while commending their positive attitude and resilience. He expressed hope that UFILKOR and other Filipino organizations would continue serving as bridges for cultural exchange between Filipinos and Koreans, and that second-generation Filipino-Koreans would reinforce these connections. He likewise affirmed the MGWC’s readiness to extend support and assistance to Filipinos encountering difficulties while staying in the Republic of Korea.

Deputy Head of Mission Mendoza delivered remarks wherein he expressed gratitude to UFILKOR, led by its President Ms. Antonieta De Jesus, for organizing the workshop, noting that its topics addressed practical concerns central to the welfare of overseas Filipinos. Later in the program, DHM Mendoza also discussed the Embassy’s consular and Assistance-to-Nationals services, safety and emergency preparedness, and GAD issues affecting workers’ rights, household responsibilities, well-being, and community participation.  He emphasized that familiarity with consular services enables Filipinos to work and live in the ROK with the proper documents and remain connected with their families in the Philippines.  He reaffirmed the Embassy’s continued support for Filipino community organizations and underscored that Philippines–ROK relations are deeply anchored on people-to-people ties.

SMPA Police Inspector Kim Boram briefed participants on phishing and smishing, advising them to remain calm, scrutinize links, messages, and attachments, and verify requests through official websites or contact numbers. She also shared essential emergency and assistance hotlines in Korea, including the Police (112/182), Financial Supervisory Service (1332), and mobile carriers (114). Meanwhile, Mr. Lumantas presented Pag-IBIG programs available to overseas Filipinos, including membership, savings, housing loans, and the MP2 savings program, describing the Fund as a practical platform for financial protection and wealth-building.

The workshop reflected the shared commitment of the Philippine Embassy, UFILKOR, and Korean partner institutions to empower Filipinos in Korea as informed, secure, and active contributors to their communities. - END
