Delegates from the Philippines highlighted the country’s history, culture and tourist attractions during a 40-minute lecture held at Dongguk University on 12 July. The ten delegates, who were selected by the South Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism to take part in various cultural immersion and promotion programs of the six-month CPI, represent various sectors and agencies in the Philippines such as the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the National Broadcasting Network, and the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation. The delegates also showcased a Philippine booth and offered a sampling of native delicacies such as dried mangoes and chicharon, as well as the popular San Miguel Beer. They also performed a well-received dance number of Pinoy Ako, after which participants from the other countries joined in an impromptu performance.
Started in 2005, the CPI is a flagship project of the South Korean Government to promote South Korean culture to developing countries and enhance awareness of foreign cultures among South Koreans. This year’s program attracted over 90 participants from 30 countries.
