PUBLIC WARNED BY THE PHILIPPINE SENATE ON VIRTUAL CURRENCY SCAM PERPETRATED BY DIGITAL CURRENCY CO. LTD.

Further to previous advisory on cryptocurrency trading scams, the Philippine Embassy in Seoul wishes to inform the Filipino community in South Korea that the Senate of the Philippines has denied entering into a partnership with Digital Currency Co. (DCC) Ltd. for the release of the virtual currency called "Philippine Global Coin." Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, in his letter dated 23 January 2018 addressed to Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alan Peter S. Cayetano, has stated his denial following announcements, blog posts and news releases about the alleged partnership, where DCC was promoting the Philippine Global Coin as an initiative of the Philippine Government, enticing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) as investors.

SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING EPS WORKER RODEL A. MANALO

Filipino EPS worker Rodel Aguila Manalo, 34, of Padre Garcia, Batangas, went missing since 16 August 2016 when he left his residence in Anseong City, the day he was supposed to take his flight to Manila for a vacation. His friends and co-workers at Daewa Jongmil Company who went to his residence to bid him goodbye were surprised to learn of his sudden disappearance leaving all his personal belongings, such as, luggage, passport, alien registration card, and cellphone in his bedroom. They searched for him in the usual places he visits but was never found.

NOMINATIONS TO THE 2018 PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS FOR FILIPINO INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS OVERSEAS

The Philippine Embassy in Seoul wishes to inform the public that nominations to the 2018 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas are now formally open to Filipino individuals and organizations. The Presidential Awards is a biennial search to honor and recognize overseas Filipinos and other individuals or organizations which contribute to Philippine development initiatives, or promote the interests of overseas Filipino communities. The awards are also given to overseas Filipinos who have exceptionally distinguished themselves in their work or profession, and have thereby brought pride to the Filipino nation. A distinct category in the awards is also reserved for foreign individuals or organizations for their exceptional contribution to the Philippines and for advancing the cause of overseas Filipino communities. The Presidential Awards highlight the time-honored Filipino values of PAKIPAGKAPWA, PAGTUTULUNGAN and PAGKAKAISA. The four (4) award categories are: 1. Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (LINKAPIL) Award ? for overseas Filipino associations or individuals with exceptional or significant contributions to Philippine reconstruction, progress and development 2. Kaanib ng Bayan Award ?for foreign individuals or organizations with exceptional or significant contributions to Philippine reconstruction, progress and development, and/or have significantly benefited a sector or community in the Philippines, or advanced the cause of overseas Filipino communities 3. Banaag Award ? for overseas Filipino individuals or organizations for their contributions in advancing the cause of and/or have significantly benefited overseas Filipino communities or sectors 4. Pamana ng Pilipino Award - for overseas Filipinos who have demonstrated the talent and industry of the Filipino and brought honor and recognition to the country through excellence and distinction in the pursuit of their work or profession. Since its inception in 1991, the awards have already been bestowed upon 460 Filipino individuals and organization overseas from 51 countries and territories. All nominations are to be submitted to the Philippine Embassy in Seoul and should be addressed to Ambassador Raul S. Hernandez.
