EMBASSY TO CLOSE ON 21 AUGUST 2014 FOR NINOY AQUINO DAY

Ninoy Aquino Day is a national non-working holiday in the Philippines observed annually on August 21, commemorating the assassination of former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. He was the husband of Corazon "Cory" Aquino, who was later to become Philippine President, and the father of the current president, Benigno S. Aquino III. Ninoy and Cory Aquino are treated as two of the heroes of democracy in the country. His assassination led to the downfall of Ferdinand Marcos on February 25, 1986, through the People Power Revolution, which catapulted his widow to the presidency. In 2004, the commemoration ceremony for the holiday was held and events were attended by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and former president and Korean War veteran Fidel V. Ramos. The next working day at the Embassy is Sunday, 24 August 2014.

FILIPINO LANGUAGE SPEECH CONTEST IN KOREA

The Embassy of the Philippines in Seoul will launch the Filipino Language Speech Contest on Saturday, 7 September 2013 in celebration of the National Language Month (Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa) in South Korea, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 1041, s. 1997. It is open to children of mixed parentage aged 12-16 years old. Interested and qualified pupils are all welcome to participate actively in this event.

22 April 2013 — The Philippine Embassy in Seoul reported to the Department of Foreign Affiars (DFA) that a dozen Filipino professors teaching at various universities and institutions of higher learning in South Korea met on April 21 at the Embassy premises to elect their new chairperson and agree on their mission focus for the year.
